A mining rig is a hardware setup used for cryptocurrency mining. The site's original article focused more narrowly on the frame: the structure that supports components such as a motherboard, processor, power supply and graphics cards.
The frame and the components
The original described aluminium frames, wooden frames and combinations of both. It also mentioned deciding how many graphics cards the structure must accommodate and assembling parts with screws or nails. These are descriptions of the article's approach, not a tested construction plan or a claim that any improvised frame is electrically or structurally safe.
The choice is not simply that wood is safe and metal is dangerous. Component mounting, electrical isolation, suitable power equipment, load and ventilation all need assessment. Follow the component manufacturers' installation guidance and seek qualified help when planning power distribution.
Open frames still need cooling
An open layout can make airflow easier to arrange, but it does not prevent heat buildup. Hot room air, obstructed airflow or cooling faults can still cause problems. Dust is another concern, not the only disadvantage: exposed parts also need protection against accidental contact, liquids and damage.
Keep appropriate clearances and inspect cooling according to the equipment documentation. An open frame is not a substitute for temperature monitoring or a suitable operating environment.
Not every cryptocurrency uses the same hardware
The original listed Bitcoin, Doge, Tron, Ada and ETH together. That list should not be read as a set of coins that can all be mined with the illustrated GPU setup. Network mechanisms and hardware requirements differ.
Bitcoin's project information describes its mining as a specialised activity using purpose-built hardware. Ethereum's mining documentation states that mining on Ethereum has ended with its move to proof of stake. A historical GPU-mining illustration does not establish present compatibility or profitability.
