Reported Cencosud impersonation: a 2022 Twitter archive

On 19 July 2022, a reader told the site that a Twitter account using @Cencosud2 had followed them. They suspected it was impersonating Tarjeta Cencosud Argentina and supplied a screenshot.

This page preserves the site's 2022 report and correspondence. It does not verify the current ownership or status of either handle mentioned below. All screenshots are the original Spanish-language images.

The original article compared it with @TCencosudArg, which the site identified at the time as the official account. It noted that it had not seen an announcement of a new account, related-company followers or comments on the reported profile. Those observations alone would not authenticate or disprove an account.

The reported direct message presented itself as customer service. It offered to discuss statements, spending, health measures, packages and other questions, then asked for the reader's phone number so an operator could contact them.

The question sent by the site

The original article says the site contacted the account it identified as official on 19 July. It asked whether @Cencosud2 was an official account or a false one.

The response recorded in the archive

According to the archived exchange, the responding account said the page was false, that it had been reported and that legal measures had been taken. It thanked the site and reiterated that the responding account was the official one.

Verify before sharing contact or account details

The original article recommended reporting and blocking the suspected impersonation account. For a present-day message, verify the service's contact channels through information you already trust, rather than assuming an archived handle is still authoritative.

Do not send private card information, passwords or verification codes to an unverified social-media contact. If you comment about a similar experience, describe the message without posting personal account details or claiming to know the sender's identity.
